B. REMINI, H. BENFETTA

Abstract

The dam reservoir Gargar is a large-scale hydraulic works commissioned in 1989 with an initial capacity of 450 million m3. It is intended for irrigation and drinking water supply. Based on its first bathymetric survey conducted in 2004 by the National Agency of Dams and Transfers, the dam is cut with a volume of 92 million m3 in 15 years of operation following an accelerated siltation. An annual filling speed equal to 1.4% / year, a significantly superior value than we estimated in 2000. Estimated at 27% filling rate of the reservoir in 2014, the dam Gargar will be abandoned in 2060 if desilting provisions will not be taken in the short and medium term.
