INFLUENCE OF THE HYDROGRAPHIC NETWORK ON HYDROLOGIC RESPONSE "IN NORTHEAST WATERSHEDS OF ALGERIA"
Abstract
This article is focused on the influence of the hydrographic networks structure on the hydrologic response during episodes of flooding for watersheds in northeastern Algeria, The first step is the knowledge of the different themes of the study area including: topography and terrain, lithology, erosion and climate needed to synthesize all the components that define the geomorphology of the watershed, The second step is devoted to the determination of morphometric descriptors watershed through the classification of hydrographic networks by using the method of Horton (1945) modified by Strahler (1957). Five types of river networks in the study area were identified for interpreting the results related to the descriptors of watersheds, the method is that the Principal Component Analysis (PCA). To determine the influence of the descriptors on the hydrological response, the Principal Component Analysis method (PCA) was applied. The results show that the maximum flow is in good correlation with the shape descriptors (65%) and of volume (60%). However there is a low correlation of network descriptors (45%).
