THE ERRAGUENE RESERVOIR DAM (ALGERIA): AN EXPERIENCE OF MORE THAN A HALF-CENTURY IN THE EXTRACTION OF CURRENT DENSITY

Abstract


In this paper, we treat the discharge of density currents by the flushing outlets of the Erraguene Dam. A technique that has been practiced since 1962; date of impoundment of the dam. The study is based on bathymetric survey data, liquid flow data and concentrations of the extracted mixtures. The dam reached a siltation rate of 14% of the total capacity in 2014. Thanks to the withdrawal of the density currents, a volume of 10.7 million m3 of silt was evacuated during the period: 1962-2010. The drawdown yield reached the highest value equal to 47% during the period 1994-2004. The life of the dam has doubled.
